Direct-drive servos, no pushrods
The servos sit right at the control surfaces: no pushrods and no pushrod slop, less trimming after assembly and repairs.

Kestrel is a 3D-printed FPV plane with a conventional layout, designed for a low landing speed, long glides and high agility.
Kestrel is already flying: it stalls at 32–35 km/h and tops out at about 135 km/h. These figures come from the INAV and EdgeTX flight logs, not from calculations.
The 1.5 m wing uses the SD7062 airfoil and has 4° of dihedral, which is rare for printed airplanes; the control surfaces are driven directly by the servos, with no pushrods. The fuselage and wing are printed in sections that fit a regular printer bed: break a section and you reprint only that one. The printed airframe weighs about 1050 g; takeoff weight is about 2 kg.
The servos sit right at the control surfaces: no pushrods and no pushrod slop, less trimming after assembly and repairs.
The wing levels itself out of a bank, so the airplane flies calmer.
The wing and fuselage are printed in sections: reprint just the broken one, and the rest keeps flying.
A detailed assembly guide with photos is in the works and will appear in this section. Until then, use the printing notes and tips below; if something is unclear, press “Question about the build?”.
Printing:
— All STLs are already oriented for printing (bottom on the bed) — do not rotate them in the slicer.
— Tail: pick ONE variant — control surfaces on breakaway tabs (printed together with the stabilizer and fin; snap off the 0.2 mm tabs after printing) or control surfaces as separate parts.
— Wing: section 3 is printed together with a piece of the aileron on two 0.2 mm tabs — snap them off after printing.
— Servo and pitot covers are printed standing, with the “to bed” mark down; add a 3–5 mm brim to the elevator and rudder covers.
— Take the stabilizer roots, stabilizer links and the tail fuselage section from the same kit edition: the slot and link length are matched.
— The electronics hatch latch is printed (plate and button); the battery hatch latch is bought (thumb screw and insert).
— The aileron servo pocket fits servos with mounting tabs across the body.
Center of gravity: fly it at 33% MAC, 83 mm behind the leading edge of the root chord (the first flight was flown at 30%).
Pitot tube: flight data suggest an airspeed scale correction of about 1.13.
Everything except the printed parts.
